I’ll be in Denver for the long weekend – want to get some snowboarding in. Where should I go? Thinking Breckenridge, since I’ll be close, but am looking for suggestions. Don’t want to drive longer than 2 hours, so places like Crested Butte are out. Also, will have 2×4 rental car – should I upgrade to 4 or AWD?
Thanks in advance.

You don’t need a 4wd! You only need to know how to drive in the snow. Having a 4wd doesn’t help unless you know how to drive on snow…they only make you more confident, and more likely to get into an accident! Most important thing is to never do anything abrupt…don’t swerve, don’t slam on your brakse, don’t gun the gas!
On the weekends, if it’s snowing, it will take you more than 2 hours from downtown to Loveland. I’d suggest Loveland, but I’ve never skied there…don’t know how much they have in the way of easy runs…looks totally steep to me!
Arapahoe Basin is just over the pass, then Keystone, if you take Hwy 6 (get off the Interstate right before the Tunnel). All closer than Breck. Skip that exit and go on to Copper. I love Copper…really difficult to ind yourself on too difficult a run, if you’re a beginner…it’s so nicely laid out! Face the mountain….to the right, easy runs…they get harder as you go left. Black and double black at the top to the left. You’re a Blue skier….stay right…You stay safe. Don’t really need the map!
