00 for a 08 santa cruz superlight…basically brand new at local bike shop in Breckenridge, CO. Used as a rental/demo for a while but looks great. Tora shocks front, fox in back. Pretty good components, disc brakes, etc. Does not include pedals. It seems to be the best deal and value of anything comparable. Is there a better bike for around this price? Everyone Ive seen asks more for this bike.

That’s a great deal….IF….the bike wasn’t abused during its stay in the rental fleet. Breck has a lot of cross country trails that wouldn’t do this bike any real harm, but it also has several areas that people could jump and drop. This is the danger with rental bikes, you just don’t know what they’ve been through and neither do the shop employees.
If it looks pretty good then chances are it is. Give it a very careful inspection, put pressure on the frame and suspension pivots and listen for any creaking or cracking noises. The suspension should still be tight and firm.
I believe they will, but if it were me, I’d call Santa Cruz and double-check that they’ll still honor their frame warranty for a second-owner rental fleet bike. If not, they’ll take care of you with a discounted replacement if it should ever fail, but this is something I’d want to know beforehand.
Great bike, though. The price you’d be getting it at is less than what the frame alone usually sells for. If everything checks out I’d jump on it (figuratively speaking).
